Reminder...

Just a reminder that Wednesday (purple) folders went home today. Please check these and take all the papers out unless something is to be filled out and returned. The D.O.T. pockets are not the best for carrying loads of paper to and from school and things get lost in the shuffle. I want to make sure you stay in the know with what is happening at Brassfield and in our classroom.

Tomorrow is Crazy Sock Day! This is voluntary, of course, but lots of fun. Zaxby's is also the place to meet for dinner afterwards. Hope you can make it and help Brassfield earn $. The class with the highest number of participating students will win a Zaxby's party!!!

Also, be sure to be doing your child's reading with them each night. Rereading the passage and reading the words/phrases really helps improve fluency and accuracy for our young readers.

Happy Track Out...

We did it! We had our first Track Out as 1st graders. The children brought home two OPTIONAL Track Out assignments. These do not have to be done but will be rewarded if they are. Be sure to check your child's Homework Folder in their D.O.T. for details.

When we track back in we will be in room 211 where Mrs. Gibson is currently. Please have your child vote on a color for the TYE-DYE t-shirts we will make when we track back in. -->

I hope you have a wonderful Track Out time with your children and get to spend time together. I can't wait until we return! I will check emails from time to time so if you need anything let me know.

It's time for us to track back in!!! Hard to believe this is the last stretch of 1st grade. Please let your child know we are in room 204. They can look for our flag.

The spelling words posted are for this week and next week. Two days wasn't enough time to learn them and I wanted to get a head start. I will post a newsletter on Friday. We are working on the same standards this week and next week.

Just a reminder that we do have a field trip coming up May 25th. And... we get to do the BIG BANG FAIR on Tuesday May 17th!!!

I will be out on our track in day :( but my great friend Mrs. Fonville and Mrs. Teristi will be here to help the kids track in. I wrote them a note but you can also give them a heads up before tomorrow morning. I will be here Friday.

Since we track out next week, and only have 2 days,  we will continue standards from this week into next week. Therefore, there is no newsletter. You can see last weeks for specific standards we are working on. We will have our spelling test on Tuesday. We are still working on this week's words into next week.

Many thanks to all the kids and parents who participated in Student Led Conferences this week. I hope you enjoyed seeing how your kids have grown since the fall. It truly is amazing. Great job boys and girls!

Track In...

Track in is upon us. Some exciting events are coming up next week.

  •  We will exchange Valentine's on Monday Feb. 15th our Track In day. We will be tracking into room 206. Please send your child to school with the holder they made and their Valentines.
  • Monday is also President's Day. I will post an activity for the kids to do on the blog. I will tell the kids about it on Monday and it is optional if they want to participate.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 16th will be the 100th day of 1st grade! I know... I can't believe it either. Your child can come to school dressed like they were 100 years old. Get creative. I can't wait to see what we will all look like. BUT... IF we don't have school Monday (snow is in the forecast) we will do 100 day on Wednesday. I will post on the blog, send and email and a Remind 101 if we have to change the date. Right now it is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16th.
Looking forward to seeing the kids next week. Enjoy your last few days of track out.

Track Out...

Well, we made it to track out. It has been one crazy but productive week. We didn't get to everything planned but we got to a lot.

  •  We finished building our community so when we track back in we will decide if it is efficient or if we need to add anything. The kids are already coming up with ideas. Check out our twitter feed to see what we built.
  • We finished our All About books and got to video tape them on SeeSaw. Your child brought home log in instructions. Please download this app and check it out. We will use this as a digital portfolio for the remainder of the year. You can even leave a comment for them. It is wonderful! The kids were bummed that they didn't get to take their geo animal home, but we didn't get to finish the math part of this project. So... we put them on display in the library to keep them safe and wow all the other Brassfield students with our hard work.
  • We didn't get to make our snowman luminaries :( We are so so disappointed. Wouldn't they have been great during this winter weather? But, never fear. I have all the stuff and we will complete them when we track back in.
  • I sent home a reading challenge. If the kids complete their hot chocolate challenge over track out when we track in we will have a hot chocolate lunch bunch. Be sure to sign off and return this when we return to school in Feb. This is optional.
  • I sent home a math packet to practice what we have learned this past track in. If they complete this they can earn a homework pass. This is optional.
  • Don't forget to have your child write out their valentines and make their valentine holder over track out. We will hand them out on Feb. 15th. Click here for ideas.20 creative Valentine Card Holders ~ adorable ideas for the kids Valentine's Day Party
Have a great break. Stay warm and wish for inches on snow while we are tracked out! See you Feb. 15th.
