It's Track Out time...

Can you believe it? It's track out time. I have some sad but exciting news. Mrs. Chester has taken a teaching job at River Bend Elementary. We are excited for her to get to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher but will miss her. Good luck Mrs. Chester.

When we track back in we have two very fun events to celebrate and need your help over track out to prepare.

Tuesday, February 14th it's Valentine's Day and we will do a Valentine exchange. A copy of classmates names will be sent home. In addition to writing Valentines the children have a track out project of making a Valentine holder to put all their Valentines in. Sky is the limit with these and I hope your child has fun creating one. Want some ideas to get you started? I just happen to have some. Click here for 20 of them. This is not mandatory, but please keep in mind that we will not have time to make anything prior to Valentine's Day at school. We track in the day before Valentine's Day and will need that day to settle into our new space and prepare for our next learning adventures.

On Wednesday, February 15th it is the...100th Day of 1st Grade!!!! And we want to celebrate!!!!!! So... over track out your child has a challenge to read for... 100 minutes! But, 50 have to be fiction books and 50 have to be non-fiction. This is optional, but will be rewarded with a special Valentine treat and lunch bunch our 1st Friday back at school. Your child will bring home a sheet to record their minutes. You can also access it here. We also talked about how much fun it would be to imagine what we might look like when we are 100 years old. On Wednesday, February 15th please have your child come to school looking like they are 100 years old. They have lots of time to plan this "costume". I can't wait to see what they look like!

I will also send home two math games. One is practicing time and one is practicing word problems. These are optional too and can be kept at home to play again and again. The time game "3 in a Row" has directions on it. The word problem game will come with a game board and a set of word problems. Cut out the word problems and use them as game cards. Your child will receive one of two games. The will either draw a card and collect correctly solved word problems winning when they have collected one of each type OR they will move along a board based on whether or not they answer a word problem correctly (this one will need a dice) and the first one to the end wins..

If you have any questions please let me know. I will check email from time to time. Enjoy this time and in my opinion..
