All 9's in specials!!!!

Whose class had all 9's for the entire week of specials? OURS! So Mrs. Chern HAD to do something special, so.... we got out tissue paper and got ooey and gooey. Look at what we made!

We learned that working as a team to make the most of our time together with our Specialist teacher is a win win for all of us. We get to learn a lot in our specials, our special teacher is happy, and we are happy. We can't wait to do this again.

Book It came home today!!!!

What is Book-IT and How do I use it?

Since 1984, the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! National Reading Incentive Program has been dedicated to the mindset that, to make a difference, you really have to Read Your Heart Out.™ It’s a personal challenge to turn have to read into a want to read. Every day.

The program runs from October - March.

  • The reading goal is set (10-15 minutes per day)
  • The achievement is rewarded (color in a shape each time the goal is made)
  • The certificate is redeemed at the end of the month (turn in your log at the end of the month)
  • Get praise, Passport to Reading, and Pizza Hut pizza
  • Watch for the smile :).

There is an app you can download so you can track your minutes all online. If you are interested in using the app instead of coloring the paper let me know and I will add you to our class. There is a dragon avatar your child can create and for minutes reading they earn coins to "shop" for things for their dragon. Sounds like fun if you would like your child to use technology.

I encourage you to visit the Pizza Hut Book It Website at http://www.bookitprogram.com/. This is where you can make a pledge to read each night as well as find resources about how to read with your child and how to help your child become a stronger reader.

Specials schedule changes...

Our Specials schedule has changed. Please note the changes. I will update the schedules tab on the blog as well.

Anchor Charts for Narrative Writing: Small Moments...

This is where we started. We listed characteristics of a GREAT story and wrote steps on how to write one. We even came up with questions to ask ourselves and our peers to help make sure our stories were GREAT!

We learned about temporal words and how they help to show order of events. We also learned two ways to make a strong ending to our stories.

We also learned about "Action Words", which we now know are called verbs. No more "went" in our stories!

We also learned about pronouns. We know we can't use them until we introduce our characters first.

Spelling list news...

In an effort to make it easier for you to know which spelling words we are focusing on I will highlight the current list in green and highlight older lists in yellow. It may be a good idea to go back to older lists from time to time to see if your child learned the words or just memorized them for the week.
