WE DID IT!
WE EARNED 25 BEARS Tickets as a class. So... we did PCAI. We posed a question (What reward would you like?). We collected data. We analyzed the data. We interpreted the data.

News for the week of Aug. 26
Quarter 1 Week 5
A note from Mrs. Chern…
We are tracked back in and settling in nicely. We have two new
friends joining our classroom. Welcome to William and Madeline.
Jacob moved and will joining his new class this week at River Bend
Elementary. Thank you to all who have donated funds for the Apex
Fun Run. This is one of Brassfield’s biggest fund raisers.

This Week’s Standards…
Reading: What is nonfiction/expository reading? What is the
purpose? What do we have to retell?
Writing: Writing Conventions: Capitalization, punctuation, spelling
strategies. Editing.
Spelling: Unit 5
Math: Strategies for adding numbers, word problems (add to-result
unknown)
Social Studies: Conflict resolution strategies.
This week’s focus is: Being Present

Just a reminder that homework is optional this year. Math will come
home periodically as it comes up in the curriculum. There is a
monthly reading challenge that is due the last day of the month. This
month is the popsicle challenge of reading 20 fiction books and
retelling settings, characters, beginning, middle, end and the author’s message. Again,
this is not required so if your child does participate I have a special treat for them on
Aug. 30th.

Upcoming Events…
  • 8/28 Apex Fun Run at Brassfield
  • 9/24 Author’s Visit from James and Kimberly Dean at 1:00
  • 9/26 Spanish Concert at 2:50 in the Learning Commons at Brassfield
  • 9/30 No School!

APEX Update...

Dear Families,

Time flies when you’re having fun! Today during our Apex visit we learned the 5th habit in becoming GAME changing leaders – putting others first. This isn’t an everyday concept for students at this age. Simply put, Jaming Josh described others first as helping someone even if it is not convenient for you.  These acts do not have to be grand, but can be something simple like letting your siblings play video games first!

As of today our class is at $23.83/lap
Our goal is to get to $40.00/lap by tomorrow so we can earn Pajama Party as a team!

Here is tonight’s challenge-
Other’s first. Do something nice for someone else. The grade level with the biggest jump in pledges wins a Pajama Party with the Apex coaches.

As a reminder, Wednesday is our Fun Run. Make sure your child wear's sneakers so they will be ready to run their laps and help Brassfield earn money.

Thanks,

Coach Chern Superstars
