Our Specials schedule has changed. Please note the changes. I will update the schedules tab on the blog as well. 

Anchor Charts for Narrative Writing: Small Moments...

This is where we started. We listed characteristics of a GREAT story and wrote steps on how to write one. We even came up with questions to ask ourselves and our peers to help make sure our stories were GREAT!

We learned about temporal words and how they help to show order of events. We also learned two ways to make a strong ending to our stories. 

We also learned about "Action Words", which we now know are called verbs. No more "went" in our stories!

We also learned about pronouns. We know we can't use them until we introduce our characters first. 

P.S. The votes are in! Our next class reward is a... Popsicle Party. Okay 1st graders let's focus on being a team!

We did it! We earned a class reward. Tomorrow, Wednesday September 17th is Pajama Day for Mrs. Chern's class. 

Don't forget to send your child to school with a white T-shirt tomorrow. We will need to tye them before we dye them so they will be ready for Friday. We will dye on Wednesday.

Spelling list news...

In an effort to make it easier for you to know which spelling words we are focusing on I will highlight the current list in green and highlight older lists in yellow. It may be a good idea to go back to older lists from time to time to see if your child learned the words or just memorized them for the week. 

We've voted and the winner is...

On our Track Out day we drew up ideas for our class banner for the upcoming Walk-a-Thon. We voted this morning and Brynn's design won. We will have a pizza theme. We are still working out the name. Many thanks to Brynn for this winning idea!

New specials schedule when we track in

When we track in we will follow a new specials schedule. I have it posted to the schedules tab. Please note that we have Exploration on Mondays, so please have your child bring their library books in on this day.

Track In is upon us...

I hope everyone has a wonderful track out. Track in is almost upon us. I will be sending home Wednesday folders on Monday. They are FULL of things: Field Trip information, Picture information, Highlights magazine information, Scholastic book order information, Parent Academy information. There is a lot! Looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early Monday morning. We will be tracking into a new classroom. We will be in room 207.
